Katya Mokolo
Born in Congo and shaped by a life between Kinshasa and Paris, Katya Mokolo is a director and producer whose creative journey reflects her multicultural background. Raised in Paris in a bilingual English-Japanese environment, she understood early on that moving between worlds can be both a challenge and a source of strength. Her story began in Kinshasa, within a family that held great ambitions for her. However, civil war and political unrest in Congo forced Katya and her family to leave everything behind and start anew in Paris. Her career quickly developed at Partizan Midi-Minuit, an influential Parisian creative institution, where she collaborated with directors including Michel Gondry and Jan Kounen. She later established herself as a prominent figure in the French creative scene, producing her partner Christophe Deroo’s first feature film, Sam Was Here (2016), which was selected for genre festivals including Gérardmer and Sitges. Her versatility has also led her into the world of contemporary art, where she has worked alongside internationally renowned artists such as Philippe Parreno (C.H.Z.) and Camille Henrot (Grosse Fatigue, winner of the Silver Lion in Venice). At the same time, she has created behind-the-scenes imagery with artists including Woodkid, Emma Watson, and Olivier Rousteing. As the founder of Trente Zéro Sept, Katya also develops her own short films and documentaries, moving between continents and disciplines. Whether collaborating with Usher or Kylie Minogue, creating documentaries for VICE, or directing creative portraits for Prada with Emma Watson, her work continually explores new territories. She is currently directing and producing a documentary about choreographer Emma Portner.
